The next generation

Since this is an historic time for our country and since my oldest daughter Olivia has been SOOOO interested in this election and it's outcome, and since we only live an hour from Washington D.C......

Can you see where this is going?

Yup. I think I'm going to take Olivia to D.C. for the Inauguration. We'll never get actual "tickets" (and quite frankly after researching it a bit last night, I'm not paying upwards of $1,000 to stand in a designated area and watch the parade) but I think just being there will be incredible.

I've never gone to an Inauguration and I think that it's important for our kids to see history being made. I want her to be aware and involved in what's going on around her. I want her to able to make informed decisions. I want her to retain this curiosity and interest. I encourage it. Because before we know it, we'll be passing the torch to her generation and they need to understand what that means.

So even if we don't get to see President Elect Obama up close and personal, and even if we don't have good seats, we'll BE there. This is something Olivia can tell her grandchildren about. I want to encourage her involvement and what better way than to take her to this historic event so she can be a part of it?

Isn't that a complete rip off? The inaug. should be completely free. Can't believe they charge people to be there?!?!? I'm appauled!

I think that is so great. I will consider that next time around. What a good idea! Right now with the distance it's out of the question, and my kids are too self-aborbed to appreciate what is actually happening. But what a great idea to consider for other events here in town. Thank you for the reminder.

Luckily, I have some contacts in our local reps office, so she's going to check into tickets. They are FREE (YAY) - but scalpers are already selling them....
